Behind the Pop

The video took about 6 weeks to make but I was working on a freelance animation at the time which severely cut into this videos time. If I were to make an estimate I'd say this video took me about 2 or 3 weeks of work to actually make.

This was the very first drawing for the bathroom. If you squint it kind of looks like a bathroom.

This was my storyboard/animatic. Those are some fancy urinals.
And the final.

The first draft storyboard and the final video are very similar. Pretty much everything I wrote in the first storyboard made it into the final video. That rarely happens.
Lookin' good.
Tense scribbles.
And the final shot.
The janitor.

This is what my Final Cut Pro file looked like. I animated the entire movie in Flash and exported it as a movie file(using Swivel). I exported one shot (the explosion) into After Effects where I added the beam effect. I then started doing sound design. I make majority of the sound effects myself but I also use free public domain sound libraries. I also recorded the voice here. Normally you are supposed to record voices ahead of time but in this movies case I wasn't sure if I was going to have any lines so I waited. After I put key sounds in place I cut down the animation. Gaps in movement and sound are edited out. I'll add any visual effects after all of that has been done (like smoke. camera shaking lighting, and zooms). And that is pretty much it. Pretty lengthy process for 1 minute of animation, right?

I started writing a new comic strip! You should totally check it out. I'm also uploading Directionless onto that website.

I still plan on remaking Brandon this summer. The plan is to film the short in July/August and to complete it over the course of the new few months. I may also film a couple of bonus scenes while I am working with the cast. I decided against the Kickstarter for now.

As for my next animation? I would really love to release stuff more frequently but while I am doing freelance that isn't possible (I don't have the time). But my goal is still to release a new animation by the end of this month!

Concept art for my next animation? Hopefully yes.
